What is Project Life?
Project Life is a pocket scrap-booking system designed by Becky Higgins. It is designed to record one week at a time through the year. It is a wonderfully easy and fun way to document your life.
Why Project Life?
It can be as simple or as fancy as you would like to make it. You can record a week at a time, a month at time, whatever works best for you. You do not need to be crafty to make Project Life work for you. You do not need to spend countless hours scrap-booking to make Project Life work for you. You can go back and document previous years or events. You can start now and just go forward. You can make it whatever you would like it to be. It is awesome.
Products:
All you need to create a Project Life album is a core kit, page protectors and an album. There are plenty of other products out there that you can also use; however, you do not need anything else.
In 2012 I used:
- Cobalt Core Kit
- American Crafts albums (2)
- Design A page protectors
- American Crafts inserts
- Grid cards 3x4 size.
- Project Life Textured Card Stock. I used the card stock for the Cobalt Edition but it looks like it isn't available anymore. This cardstock is wonderful to help fill in those empty pockets during weeks when you may be short on photos. I would also staple smaller photos to a 4x6 card and then write on the card next to the photo. You could staple/glue receipts, small photos, etc on to the cardstock.
In 2013 I used:
- Turquoise Core Kit
- We R Memory Keepers albums (2)
- Design A page protectors
- American Crafts inserts
- Studio Calico monthly project life kit. (I subscribed for 6 months and then took a break because I needed to use up what I had. I really enjoyed getting new supplies every month and may subscribe again in the future.)
- Free Quote Cards. I downloaded them to my computer, opened them in Picasa and had them printed at Walgreens. I used one quote each week in 2013.
- Honey Core Kit
- Here is a blog post that shows all of the cards from the Honey Core Kit.
- Project Life albums (2)
- Design A page protectors
- American Crafts inserts
- Grid cards 3x4 size
- Grid cards 4x6 size
When I started Project Life in 2012, the supplies were only sold thru Amazon. Now, Michaels and Hobby Lobby are carrying Project Life supplies. You may find more variety of products on Amazon; however, Michaels will occasionally run a sale on Project Life products. If they are not on sale, you can use your weekly 40% off coupon. Recently Michaels had all scrap-booking albums on sale, including Project Life albums--but regular Project Life supplies were not on sale, just check their ad weekly. (I think Hobby Lobby also has weekly coupons and runs sale but since there isn't one in my area, I don't know for sure.)
My Favorite Products:
Design A page protectors:
These are the only page protectors I use. There are many others styles so another one may work better for you. You can also mix different page protectors in your album.
American Crafts Inserts:
I love these! They hold three 4x6 photos on the front and three 4x6 photos on the back.
Grid Cards:
Great for journalling.
Studio Calico kits:
The kits have 4x6 and 3x4 cards, small stamps and embellishments.
Seafoam Core kit :
Midnight Kit:
I haven't used either of these kits yet but I love them!
5x7 inserts:
I like to make a 5x7 photo collage in Picasa when I have a lot of photos from one event. I print the collage at Walgreens.
My favorite pen for journalling
Picasa:
This is a free photo editing program. I make monthly albums for my photos. (You could also do weekly albums.) I order photos from Walgreens, which you can do right from Picasa. Sometimes I will make 4x6 or 5x7 collages. I also like writing on my photos in Picasa.
You can also print your photos at home but I have never done much of that. Walgreens has coupon codes every week, which is especially nice when I place a large order because I am playing catch up!
