Gracie vs. the Scale.

103_0598

We had to take Gracie for a weight check when she was 4 days old (2 days after we came home from the hospital). She had lost 1 pound, which put her at 11% loss from her birth weight. Since she had lost more than 10% of her birth weight, they wanted us to give her some formula, along with nursing. They gave us a long, thin tube attached to a syringe. You tape the tube to your finger and then put your finger in her mouth and she sucks the formula through the tube. Beware, if she is hungry she will suck your finger off. We had to take her back for a weight check the following day and she was up a few ounces. Then, we had to take her back after 2 more days. She had gone down a few ounces so we had to increase the amount of formula we were giving her. And, we had to take her back in 24 hours. The next day she had gained a few ounces. We again had to go back in 24 hours. I think we went for a weight check almost every day last week. It is one of the only places I have been since Gracie was born. =P On Sunday they decided she had gained enough weight that we didn't need to come back. Yesterday, she went in for her 2 week check-up. She got a good report. She isn't back up to her birth weight, but the doctor was too concerned. She weighed 7 pounds 12.5 ounces and her birth weight was 8 pounds 3 ounces. She is almost there. We have to go back next week; but, we don't have to go in for any weight checks in between. The doctor also wants to check the bump on her head, from the vacuum at birth. But, overall she is very healthy. And, they thought she was cute.

Gracie Arrives.

I have been meaning to get into the habit of posting. I think about it every day. Then, the day gets away from me. But, I know there is so much that I am going to want to remember so I am going to try really hard to get something posted every week-day. May as well set the bar high, right? =) So, I thought I would start with a recap of Gracie's birth. Wed Oct 15th: We have our 39 week doctor appt. We are scheduled for an ultrasound before the dr visit. The ultrasound shows that the baby is 8 pounds 14 ounces. Mommy is a little stunned and has a hard time getting up and leaving the office. We see the dr and he explains that the baby could be one pound bigger or one pound larger than the weight the ultrasound showed. Either way we are looking at an 8-10 pound baby. Mommy is still in shock. The dr checks me and determines that nothing is really happening and things are not favorable to induce the baby. We can wait and see if I go into labor or we can schedule a c-section. If we get

Pudding.

I made butterscotch pudding recently and let Gracie try some. She was pretty excited:
